Das Streben nach Vollkommenheit

Over the centuries and generations, Japanese artisans have continuously refined their products – whether swords, ceramics, wood saws, brushes, or fishing rods. One can certainly produce these items more cheaply or faster today than these craftsmen do, but by no means better: The striving for perfection is their obligation, fulfillment, and purpose in life all at once.

The Striving for Perfection introduces the masters of their craft, takes a look into the small, often unadorned workshops, reports on the elaborate manufacturing processes, celebrates the timeless, simple beauty of the traditional products, and describes the often rural surroundings of the small towns and villages from which they originate.
